COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Advanced Materials and Engineering provides a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to innovate and apply advanced materials in a range of industries. In the first semester, students develop a strong foundation through compulsory modules such as Research Methods, Materials Modelling, Advanced Materials Characterisation, and the MSc Project, which enable them to combine theoretical understanding with practical research skills. Optional modules, including Nanomaterials and Composites or Advanced Joining Methods, allow students to specialise in areas of particular interest and gain expertise in cutting-edge materials technologies. The second semester continues this integrated approach, with compulsory modules covering Clean Energy, Materials and Sustainability, Advanced Processing of Materials, and a Group Design Project, providing practical experience in team-based problem solving and applied material innovation. Additional optional modules, such as Colloid Science and Engineering or Advances in Biomaterials, further broaden students’ understanding of materials applications in diverse sectors. Throughout the program, students engage with state-of-the-art laboratory techniques, advanced characterisation methods, and sustainable materials design principles. By the end of the course, graduates are equipped with a deep understanding of the structure, properties, processing, and environmental implications of modern materials, preparing them for careers in research, industry, and advanced engineering roles with a focus on innovation and sustainability.
