COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in International Security is structured to provide students with a thorough understanding of contemporary security challenges, combining theoretical knowledge with applied research skills. In the first semester, compulsory modules include Security in Global Politics, The Ethics of War, Security and Artificial Intelligence, and Security Challenges in the Global South. These modules offer a foundation in the key issues affecting global security, including ethical considerations, the impact of emerging technologies, and regional security dynamics. In the second semester, students focus on a Dissertation in Security Studies, allowing them to conduct in-depth research on a topic of their choice, applying both theoretical frameworks and practical analysis. Additionally, students can choose from optional modules to further specialise, including Research Design and Practice, Governing Crises, Urban Warfare, Challenges in Contemporary Intelligence, and Hacking for the Ministry of Defence. This flexibility enables students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career aspirations while gaining practical and policy-relevant skills. By combining rigorous academic study, case analysis, and applied research, the program prepares graduates to critically assess complex security threats, contribute to policy development, and pursue careers in government, intelligence, international organisations, or research. Graduates are equipped to navigate the dynamic and evolving landscape of global security with confidence and expertise.
