COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Creative Writing and the Writing Industries at Loughborough University is designed to equip students with advanced creative and professional skills for a career in writing, publishing, and related cultural industries. In the first semester, students focus on developing research and writing capabilities through modules such as Resources for Advanced Research, Writing for Publication, and Preserving the Past: Contemporary Literature and Culture. These modules provide a solid foundation in creative practice, critical analysis, and understanding of the cultural contexts that inform contemporary literature. The second semester builds on these skills by exploring the professional side of writing, with compulsory modules including The Writer and the Writing Industries, Literary Festival Management, and Twenty-First Century U.S. Literature and Culture. These modules teach students how to navigate the literary marketplace, understand publishing pathways, and engage with audiences through events and festivals. Students can also choose between completing a traditional Dissertation or a Writing Industries Project, allowing them to tailor their studies to academic research or applied industry practice. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience, professional insight, and research expertise, enabling them to develop as skilled writers and informed professionals prepared to contribute to the evolving creative and cultural sectors.
