COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Climate Change Politics and Policy program provides students with an in-depth understanding of the political, economic, and scientific dimensions of climate change and sustainable development. In the first semester, students engage with core modules such as hydrometeorology for the climate emergency, climate futures, mapping and modelling the Sustainable Development Goals, and international politics, exploring how global policy frameworks interact with environmental challenges. These modules equip students with analytical and research skills to assess climate risks and develop evidence-based strategies. The second semester focuses on the practical and policy applications of climate science, with modules covering the global financial system under climate change, translating climate science into practice, and economic modelling and policy for sustainable development. Students also develop their research skills through the research design and practice module, culminating in a substantial dissertation that allows them to investigate a topic of particular interest within climate change politics and policy. Across the program, students gain a comprehensive understanding of how scientific knowledge, economic tools, and political decision-making intersect to address the urgent challenges of climate change. Graduates leave prepared to work in public and private sector organisations, international institutions, and research roles, contributing to sustainable development and informed climate action at local, national, and global levels.
