COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law LLB (Hons) degree at Loughborough University provides a comprehensive legal education, combining foundational knowledge with opportunities for specialisation and critical engagement. In the first year, students study essential subjects such as public law, criminal law, contract law, and the English legal system, while developing practical skills through modules like The Lawyer’s Toolkit and Law and Social Justice. The second year builds on this foundation, covering property law, tort law, trusts, and transnational legal systems, alongside modules exploring liberal legalism and its limits. Students can also choose optional modules addressing contemporary issues, including media, culture and crime, global migration, succession law, and gender and crime, allowing them to tailor their studies to individual interests. In the final year, students have the opportunity to undertake a dissertation in law and select from advanced optional modules, such as family law, youth justice, environmental thought, gender and sexuality law, and questions of justice in tort law. Throughout the course, students develop analytical, research, and practical skills while engaging with the social, political, and ethical dimensions of law. This structure ensures graduates are well-equipped for careers in legal practice, public administration, policy, business, and international organisations, combining rigorous academic knowledge with professional readiness and a strong understanding of justice and social responsibility.
