COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Sociology program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of social structures, inequalities, and cultural dynamics, equipping them with the analytical and research skills needed to navigate complex societal issues. In the first year, students explore foundational topics such as identities, inequalities, sociological imagination, and qualitative research methods, alongside optional modules in communication, criminology, and social policy, offering a broad introduction to contemporary social issues. The second year develops students’ knowledge through advanced research methods, social theory, and quantitative research skills, while engaging with globalisation, postcolonialism, migration, and digital society. Optional modules allow students to explore areas such as urban geographies, political psychology, sport and diversity, and psychological disorders in society, tailoring the degree to individual interests. In the final year, students undertake a sociology project dissertation and compulsory modules that examine sociological futures, consumption, culture, everyday life, gender, and social structures, while optional modules provide further opportunities to investigate topics such as youth justice, race and racism, poverty, and sporting cultures. Across all three years, the program emphasizes practical research skills, critical thinking, and applied understanding, enabling students to interpret complex social phenomena, evaluate evidence, and propose informed solutions. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in research, policy, social work, community development, or further academic study.
