COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Psychology with Criminology degree combines the study of psychological science with a detailed exploration of crime, its causes, and the criminal justice system. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Learning to be a Psychologist, Research Skills A, Psychology of the Early Years, Cognitive Research, Understanding the Brain, and An Introduction to the Criminal Justice System. These modules introduce core psychological principles, research methods, and an overview of crime and justice. The second year develops both disciplines further, with compulsory modules in Understanding Human Diversity, Psychology Across the Lifespan, Criminological Theory, Research Skills B, Applied Cognitive Research, and Understanding Punishment. This year focuses on applying psychological theory to human behaviour while exploring key concepts in criminology, including why crime occurs and how society responds. The third year emphasizes independent research and applied learning, featuring a major project alongside modules such as Youth Justice and Rehabilitation and Recovery. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies, with opportunities to explore areas such as learning in early childhood, advanced research methods, forensic psychology, addictive behaviours, clinical psychology, and parenting and socialisation. Throughout the course, students develop analytical, research, and practical skills that prepare them for careers in psychology, criminal justice, law enforcement, rehabilitation services, and related fields, as well as postgraduate study.
