COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Media and Communication degree provides a thorough and multidisciplinary exploration of media, culture, and communication, combining theory with research skills and critical engagement. In the first year, students are introduced to core concepts through modules such as Language in Society, Foundations in Media and Communication Studies, and key research methods, both qualitative and quantitative. Optional modules in areas like film, gaming cultures, identity, and global change allow students to broaden their perspectives. The second year deepens understanding with compulsory modules including Media, Identity and Inequality, Promotional Culture, Media and Social Change, and Screen Cultures, supported by advanced research methods training. Students can tailor their learning further with options covering political psychology, digital lives, crime and media, communication in sport, and employability-focused modules. In the final year, students undertake an independent research dissertation alongside core modules such as Television and Society, Digital Media and Society, Documenting the World, and Contemporary Media Debates. Optional topics include influencer culture, news production, race and racism, and gender studies, alongside opportunities to study languages. This program equips students with analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing them for careers in media, journalism, public relations, digital communication, cultural analysis, and related professional or academic fields.
