COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Mathematics and Statistics degree is structured to provide students with a strong grounding in core mathematics while developing advanced skills in probability, data analysis, and statistical modelling. In the first year, students build a foundation through modules such as analysis, linear algebra, geometry, mechanics, mathematical methods, and probability, alongside computing and numerical methods to strengthen practical and computational skills. The second year introduces more advanced mathematics with courses in analysis, probability theory, complex analysis, and differential equations, while the statistics component expands into applied statistics and statistical modelling. Students also gain experience in communicating mathematics and can choose optional modules in areas such as topology, rings and polynomials, or computational methods. In the final year, the focus shifts towards independent research through a compulsory statistics project, along with advanced study in areas like statistics for large data, Bayesian statistics, and stochastic methods in finance. A wide range of optional modules, including operational research, medical statistics, game theory, functional analysis, and mathematical biology, allows students to tailor their studies to specific interests. This balanced program equips graduates with strong mathematical reasoning, statistical expertise, and practical problem-solving skills, preparing them for careers in data science, finance, analytics, research, and beyond.
