COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Criminology and Sociology degree provides an in-depth exploration of crime, justice, and societal dynamics through an integrated approach to both disciplines. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge of social identities, inequalities, criminology, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and the criminal justice system, while optional modules such as public sociology and language study broaden their perspectives. The second year focuses on advanced research methods, crime prevention, and understanding punishment, alongside optional topics including social theories, criminological theory, media and crime, political psychology, and gendered perspectives on crime. This combination of compulsory and optional modules develops analytical, research, and critical thinking skills. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through optional dissertation projects in sociology or criminology and explore applied topics such as youth justice, rehabilitation, and recovery, as well as issues of race, gender, poverty, and violence in contemporary society. Additional optional modules cover areas such as forensic psychology, health and culture, consumption, and digital society, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests. Throughout the degree, students develop the knowledge, practical research skills, and critical awareness necessary to understand crime and social change, preparing them for careers in criminal justice, policy, research, and related fields, as well as further study in social sciences
