COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Computer Science and Cyber Security degree at Loughborough provides students with a comprehensive education in both computer science and cyber security, combining theoretical understanding with practical, hands-on experience. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in programming, databases, computer systems, low-level programming, operating systems, networks, software engineering, logic, mathematics, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and the fundamentals of artificial intelligence. The second year develops advanced technical skills through modules in artificial intelligence and machine learning, professional training preparation, team projects, formal languages, theory of computation, software engineering practices, computer graphics, mobile application development, and web systems security and architecture. In the final year, students focus on cyber security, completing a Cyber Security Project and studying advanced topics such as digital forensics, applied cryptography, advanced networking, cyber risk management, and human factors in cyber security. Optional modules allow exploration of emerging areas, including robotics, data mining, computer vision, cloud computing, distributed systems, enterprise resource planning, agent-based systems, and entrepreneurship. Throughout the program, students develop problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills, preparing them to assess vulnerabilities, design secure systems, respond to cyber threats, and pursue careers in cyber security, network security, digital forensics, and related technology sectors, making them highly sought-after professionals in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
