COURSE CURRICULUM

The Aeronautical Engineering program at LJMU provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary for careers in aviation and aerospace. In the first year, students study foundational subjects including Mathematics for Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering, Materials and Structures, Thermofluids, Computing, Engineering Design and Manufacture, Aircraft Systems, Performance and Design, and Engineering Mechanics and Structures, establishing a solid grounding in engineering principles. The second year builds on this knowledge with modules such as Engineering Mathematics 3, Dynamics and Vibration, Systems Reliability Assessment, Incompressible Aerodynamics, Aircraft Structures, Mechanics of Materials, Compressible Flow, Control Engineering, Turbomachinery and Propulsion, Fixed and Rotary Wing Aircraft Performance, and Electrotechnology, alongside the Structural Design Project, giving students hands-on experience in applied engineering design. In the final year, students undertake the BEng Project and Aircraft Stability and Flight Test, while optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as Spacecraft Engineering, Gas Turbine Design, Noise Control, Composite Materials and Structures, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Sensor Fusion, Flight Control Systems, and Aircraft Design. This combination of core and optional modules ensures students develop expertise in aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, and control systems, while fostering problem-solving, innovation, and practical project experience, preparing graduates for diverse careers in aviation, aerospace engineering, and advanced aeronautical research.
