COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architecture program at LJMU is structured to develop both creative and technical expertise across three years, preparing students for professional practice. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Design Studio A, Design Skills, Tectonics 1, Building Science, and Architectural History, which introduce essential concepts in design, construction, materials, and the cultural context of architecture. The second year expands on this foundation with Design Studio B, Advanced Design Skills, Advanced Technical Investigations, Critical Theory, and Design in Context, encouraging students to refine their design approach while integrating technical knowledge and critical thinking. These modules foster an understanding of the complex relationships between form, function, and context in architectural projects. In the final year, students undertake Design Studio C, Design Interventions, and a Research Dissertation, enabling them to demonstrate creative problem-solving, independent research, and applied design expertise. The Business of Architecture module introduces professional and managerial skills, preparing students for the realities of the architectural workplace. Across the program, studio-based projects, technical investigations, and theoretical study combine to provide a comprehensive education, ensuring graduates are equipped with the creativity, technical knowledge, and professional competence required to succeed as innovative and capable architects in a competitive and multidisciplinary field.
