COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Textile Design program offers a structured and immersive curriculum designed to develop creativity, technical skills, and professional awareness in textiles. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge and practical experience through modules covering creative production, historical and cultural design perspectives, visual research, textile materials and processes, and applied storytelling for sustainability. They also explore trends, techniques, and writing for practice, providing a strong theoretical and practical grounding. The second year builds on this foundation, focusing on textile practice in context, professional and business practice, textile design and technology, and textile testing and material development. Students further engage with concept development, emerging design practices, research methods, and speculative futures for fashion and textiles. A range of optional modules allows exploration of interdisciplinary areas, including arts management, responsible design, creative placemaking, wearable products, and AI in design, enabling students to broaden their skills and perspectives. In the final year, students undertake self-directed studio practice and produce a major project that combines portfolio work with professional practice, consolidating their learning and preparing them for careers in the textile industry or further study. The program emphasizes creativity, experimentation, technical mastery, sustainability, and professional readiness, equipping students to innovate and respond effectively to the evolving demands of the textile sector.
