COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree is structured to provide a balance of creative exploration, practical skills, and critical understanding, preparing students for diverse opportunities within the design industry. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in core areas through modules such as Creative Production, Graphic Design Context, Type and Language, and Visual Thinking, followed by Writing for Practice, Visual Practices, Branding and Strategy, and Applied Storytelling for Sustainability. These modules establish essential creative, technical, and conceptual skills. The second year focuses on expanding design approaches and professional awareness through compulsory modules like Social Design, Visualisation, Narrative and Sequence, Collaboration, Audience and Environment, Design Research Methods, and Speculative Futures. A range of optional modules allows students to tailor their learning towards personal interests, exploring areas such as activism, creative industries, generative AI, film, and wearable product design. In the final year, the emphasis shifts to independent practice and professional readiness. Students undertake a Negotiated Project and conclude their studies with a Major Project, supported by optional routes such as a Dissertation or Industrial Report. This structure enables students to refine their personal design identity while gaining advanced creative, research, and professional skills that prepare them for careers in the global creative sector.
