COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion and Apparel Design degree provides a comprehensive and immersive learning experience that equips students with the creative, technical, and professional skills required to succeed in the modern fashion industry. In the first year, students develop foundational expertise through modules in creative production, fashion design principles, garment construction, and 3D manipulation, alongside art and design research writing and applied storytelling for sustainability, fostering both practical and conceptual understanding. In the second year, the course builds on this foundation with advanced modules in digital design processes, sustainable design systems, apparel innovations, and research and design methods, while contextualising fashion within historical, social, and cultural frameworks. Optional modules allow students to explore specialised interests such as arts management, ethical design practices, creative placemaking, and wearable technologies, enhancing their adaptability and industry relevance. In the final year, students focus on professional-level practice through pre-collection prototyping, conceptual development, and the final major project, supported by optional dissertations or industrial reports to deepen research and analytical skills. Throughout the degree, students are encouraged to experiment with innovative materials, digital tools, and emerging technologies while maintaining ethical and sustainable design principles.
