COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Mental Health Nursing program provides a structured and comprehensive pathway for graduates aiming to develop advanced skills in caring for individuals with mental health needs. In the first year, students focus on assessing, planning, and providing care in mental health nursing, gaining a strong foundation in applied physiology and understanding how it relates to mental health. The curriculum also emphasizes research in health and social care, equipping students with the ability to critically appraise evidence and apply it in clinical practice, alongside promoting health and preventing ill health through early intervention and health education. Practical experience in clinical settings allows students to apply theoretical knowledge, develop professional competencies, and engage in reflective practice. The second year builds on these foundations, concentrating on enhancing and evaluating care, managing pharmacology and medicines, and providing acute and complex care tailored to mental health needs. Leadership and professional development are also integrated, preparing students for managerial and advisory roles within multidisciplinary teams. A dissertation project enables students to conduct independent research, contributing to evidence-based practice and service improvement.
