COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Children’s Nursing program provides a comprehensive and intensive pathway for graduates to develop the knowledge, skills, and clinical expertise required to care for children and young people from birth to 18 years. In the first year, students focus on assessing needs, planning, and providing care in children’s nursing, alongside applied physiology for children and young people, promoting health and preventing ill health, and developing research skills in health and social care. These foundational modules equip students with the theoretical understanding and practical abilities necessary to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care. In the second year, the curriculum advances to enhancing and evaluating care, acute and complex care, and pharmacology and medicines management in children’s nursing, enabling students to respond confidently to complex clinical situations and critically evaluate care interventions. A dissertation allows students to engage in in-depth research, applying evidence-based practice to real-world challenges in children’s healthcare. Practical placements and hands-on learning experiences throughout the program support the integration of theory into practice, fostering clinical competence and professional development. Graduates emerge as reflective, skilled, and adaptable practitioners, prepared to lead, innovate, and provide high-quality, child-centered care across diverse healthcare settings, contributing positively to the health and wellbeing of children and their families.
