COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Quantity Surveying equips students with the knowledge and skills required to manage the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects. Core modules cover project evaluation, construction contract administration, construction law, procurement and management of construction, economics and finance for construction, and a dissertation for MSc students. These modules provide a strong foundation in assessing project feasibility, managing contracts, understanding legal frameworks, and applying financial principles to construction projects, ensuring that students are capable of delivering projects efficiently and effectively. For those on the conversion course, additional modules such as construction measurement, documentation and estimating, and the institutional and legal context for construction broaden understanding of industry practices. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests, including behavioural finance, building control, building information modelling and collaborative working, health and safety management, history of architecture and construction, international real estate and construction, and legal resolution of property and construction disputes. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications, the course prepares students to address real-world challenges in construction cost management. Graduates develop expertise in financial control, risk management, procurement strategies, and legal compliance, equipping them for professional roles in consultancy firms, client organisations, and contracting companies, and supporting progression toward industry-recognised qualifications.
