The MSc in Engineering Product Design equips students with a comprehensive set of skills to excel in innovative product development and technology-driven design. The program begins by developing expertise in design thinking and reasoning, enabling students to approach complex engineering challenges with creativity and structured problem-solving. Modules in engineering design, analysis, and manufacture provide practical knowledge of designing and producing high-quality, functional products, while technical research and professional skills prepare students to manage projects, conduct rigorous research, and communicate effectively in professional environments. The Design Futures module encourages forward-looking, strategic thinking, fostering an awareness of emerging technologies, trends, and their potential impact on product innovation. Human Factors focuses on understanding user needs, ergonomics, and usability, ensuring products are safe, efficient, and user-centered. Technology Evaluation and Commercialisation introduces students to the processes of assessing new technologies, managing intellectual property, and bringing innovations to market successfully. The MSc Engineering Product Design Project serves as a capstone experience, integrating knowledge from all modules and allowing students to undertake an original, research-informed design project that addresses real-world engineering and design challenges. Through this combination of theoretical learning, practical application, and research-led experience, graduates are prepared to lead and innovate in multidisciplinary product design and engineering contexts.
