COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Building Surveying is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for a successful career in the surveying and construction industries. Core modules cover key areas such as building pathology, property and building law, sustainability, energy and net zero, property and asset management, and a building surveying project, providing a comprehensive understanding of both technical and regulatory aspects of the built environment. The program also includes a dissertation for MSc students, allowing them to conduct independent research and apply their knowledge to real-world challenges. For conversion course students, additional modules in construction and valuations and surveying provide a pathway to develop foundational skills in these areas. Optional modules such as advanced valuations, building control, and building information modelling and collaborative working allow students to tailor their studies to specific career interests and emerging industry trends. The course combines classroom learning with practical applications, preparing students to conduct site inspections, assess building conditions, and implement sustainable management practices. Graduates develop the skills needed to work as professional building surveyors, capable of advising on building performance, maintenance, compliance, and refurbishment projects.
