COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Data Engineering program provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience required for careers in data-driven fields. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Fundamentals of Computer Science, Discrete Mathematics, Fundamentals of Software Development, Professional Practice, Requirements Analysis and User-Centred Design, and Data Structures and Algorithms. These modules establish essential programming, analytical, and problem-solving skills. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied data skills and analytics with modules including Ethics, Policy and Regulation, Statistics and Modelling, Exploratory Data Analysis, Big Data and Database Systems, Software Engineering, and Visual Analytics. Students also have the option to undertake a sandwich placement year, gaining valuable industry experience. In the final years, students advance their expertise with specialised modules such as Data Scraping and Text Mining, Data Mining and Big Data Analytics, Big Data Platforms and Applications, and Artificial Intelligence. An extensive project allows students to integrate and apply their learning to a substantial, independent task, demonstrating practical competence in designing and implementing data solutions. Overall, the program combines rigorous theoretical study, hands-on experience, and industry-relevant tools and techniques, producing graduates capable of addressing complex challenges in data engineering, analytics, and AI, and prepared for diverse careers in the data-driven economy.
