COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Cyber Security program provides a comprehensive curriculum that equips students with the theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and practical experience necessary to excel in the field of cyber security. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation through modules such as Discrete Mathematics, Fundamentals of Software Development, Fundamentals of Computer Science, Professional Practice, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Requirements Analysis and User-Centred Design. These modules build essential programming, analytical, and problem-solving skills while introducing professional practices. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied cyber security and network concepts, with modules including Ethics, Policy and Regulation, Operating Systems, Introduction to Security Testing, Principles of Data Networks, Big Data and Database Systems, and Cyber Security Principles. Students also have the option to undertake a sandwich placement year to gain real-world industry experience. In the final years, students advance their expertise with modules such as Cyber Threats and Counter Measures, Smart Internet Technologies, Cryptography, Anonymity and Privacy, and Systems and Cyber Security, alongside an Honours Project that allows for independent research and practical application of skills. Overall, the program combines rigorous theoretical study, practical labs, ethical and regulatory understanding, and industry-focused learning, preparing graduates to tackle complex cyber security challenges and pursue careers protecting digital systems across diverse sectors.
