COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science program is structured over three years to provide students with a strong theoretical foundation and extensive practical experience in the science of human performance. In the first year, students study core subjects such as Biomechanics 1, Anatomy and Physiology for Sport, Sport Psychology, Perception and Action 1, Nutrition, Health and Disease, and Measurement in Sport and Exercise. These modules introduce the essential scientific principles that underpin athletic performance and health, while developing practical skills in measurement, analysis, and evaluation. The second year builds on this foundation with more advanced modules including Biomechanics 2, Sport Physiology and Nutrition, Sport Psychology 2, Perception and Action 2, Strength and Conditioning, and Research Methods in Sport. This stage emphasises applied learning, research skills, and the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical performance analysis. In the third year, students have the opportunity to specialise through optional modules such as Clinical and Applied Biomechanics, Environmental Exercise Physiology, Applied Sport Psychology, and Clinical Perception and Action, while also undertaking an optional placement to gain professional experience. All students complete a Research Project, developing critical thinking, independent research, and problem-solving skills. Graduates leave the program equipped for careers in elite sport, sports therapy and medicine, coaching, performance analysis, and health and wellbeing sectors, with a strong foundation for further study and professional development in sports science.
