COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Product Design and Technology program is structured over three years, providing a progressive development of creative, technical, and professional skills. In the first year, students build a foundation in design and engineering through modules such as Design Inspiration, Design Application, Technical and Design Communications, Professional Skills, Pathway Preparation, and Design Engineering. These modules focus on developing creativity, problem-solving abilities, and an understanding of design principles while introducing essential technical knowledge. In the second year, learning advances with Design Inspiration 2, Design Application 2, Technical and Design Communications 2, and Professional Skills 2, alongside a Mini Major Project that encourages hands-on experimentation and practical application. Students also have the option to explore specialized pathways in Circular Economy, User Experience, or Design Engineering, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. Between the second and third years, students can undertake an optional sandwich work placement, gaining valuable industry experience. In the final year, the curriculum emphasizes innovation and enterprise, advanced research tools, and a Major Project that integrates creativity, technical knowledge, and practical skills. Students may continue to pursue optional pathways and complete a Pathway Application module, enabling them to consolidate their expertise. Overall, the program prepares graduates to become versatile, skilled, and professional designers ready for diverse careers in product design, engineering, and technology.
