COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Criminology with Psychology program is structured over three years, combining the study of crime, justice, and human behaviour to provide a comprehensive understanding of both disciplines. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules including Deconstructing the Crime Problem, Introduction to the Criminal Justice System, Introducing and Exploring Psychological Approaches, Understanding Crime: Criminological Theory in Context, and Social Justice in Action. These modules build core skills in critical thinking, research, and the application of psychological and criminological theory. The second year deepens this knowledge through Social Research Methods, Behind Bars: Prisons and Society, Psychology of Feelings, Working in the Social Sciences, Youth, Crime and Delinquency, and Psychology of Behaviour with Others, providing students with practical experience and advanced analytical skills. In the third year, students focus on professional practice and research through a year-long Research Project, alongside modules such as Gender, Crime and Justice, Contemporary Criminology, and selected optional modules from two pools, covering topics such as Psychology in the Criminal Justice System, Psychopharmacology, Counselling Psychology, Neuropsychology, Lifespan Development, and Psychology of Addictive Behaviour. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to engage with real-world applications, develop employability skills, and participate in professional events, preparing them for careers in probation, policing, the prison service, social work, youth offending teams, research, and related fields.
