COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Science BSc (Hons) program offers a structured three-year curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the principles and applications of biomedical science. In the first year, students develop essential knowledge through modules such as Biology of the Cell, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology and Immunology, Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, and Employability Skills for Biomedicine Scientists. These modules introduce fundamental scientific concepts, laboratory techniques, and professional skills, preparing students for more advanced study. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied biomedical science with modules including Human Haematology and Clinical Immunology, Bioinformatics and Skills for Biomedical Scientists, Cellular Pathology and Imaging, Clinical Biochemistry and Blood Transfusion, Professional Skills for Biomedical Scientists, Stem Cell and Developmental Biology, and Introduction to Pharmacology. This stage emphasizes laboratory competence, clinical applications, and research skills. The final year further develops advanced expertise through Clinical OMICS and Precision Medicine, Medical and Public Health Microbiology, and a Research Project in Biomedicine, allowing students to engage in independent scientific investigation. Additionally, students choose two optional modules, such as Clinical Nutrition and the Microbiome or Drug Design and Development, to tailor their learning to specific interests. Overall, the program combines theoretical knowledge, practical laboratory experience, and professional development, equipping graduates with the skills and expertise required for careers in clinical, research, and pharmaceutical settings or further study in medicine.
