COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering course is structured over three years to provide students with a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of electronic and computer engineering. In the first year, students develop essential skills in engineering mathematics, electrical circuit analysis, electronic principles, digital logic design, object-oriented programming with C++, and design and practice, establishing a strong base in core engineering concepts and practical problem-solving. The second year builds on this foundation with more advanced topics, including discrete mathematics, data structures and algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, data communications, computer networks, analogue electronics, and embedded software design. Students also engage in professional practice and a team design project, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to collaborative, real-world challenges. In the final year, the focus shifts to specialized and emerging areas such as computer systems and software engineering, cybersecurity and cryptography, artificial intelligence and signal processing, and embedded systems including the Internet of Things. The year culminates in a substantial BEng project, giving students the opportunity to integrate their learning and tackle a significant engineering problem. Throughout the program, the combination of practical experience, industry-informed teaching, and advanced technical knowledge equips graduates with the skills and expertise necessary to succeed in diverse and evolving engineering careers.
