COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering course at LSBU provides a structured and progressive curriculum designed to equip students with the technical knowledge and practical skills required for a career in chemical and process engineering. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules in design and practice, engineering mathematics and modelling, engineering principles, mass and energy balances, chemical engineering computing, and materials and thermofluids. These modules establish a solid understanding of core chemical engineering concepts and problem-solving techniques. The second year deepens this knowledge with advanced engineering mathematics, thermodynamics, separation processes, kinetics and reaction engineering, principles of control, and process design and simulation, emphasizing the application of theory to real-world engineering challenges. In the final year, students undertake complex and integrated studies through modules such as design project, separation and reactor design, process safety and environmental management, sustainability and process integration, and process control and compressible fluids. This year allows students to apply their accumulated knowledge to large-scale engineering problems, focusing on sustainable and safe industrial processes. Throughout the program, practical experience, computational skills, and problem-solving are emphasized, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for professional roles in chemical, pharmaceutical, energy, food, and other process-driven industries, with the confidence to innovate and contribute responsibly to their field.
