COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Building Services Engineering program at LSBU provides a comprehensive three-year curriculum designed to equip students with the technical expertise, practical skills, and industry knowledge needed to excel in building services and energy management. In the first year, students study core modules such as Engineering Mathematics, Building Services Engineering Principles, Construction Practice, Introduction to Building Services, Internal Environment and Comfort, and Heating and Ventilation Systems. These modules provide a solid foundation in the principles of building services, environmental control, and the basics of mechanical and electrical systems. In the second year, students advance their knowledge with modules including Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Thermofluids Engineering, Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Engineering, Integrated Building Design, Project and Business Management, and Electrical Services in Buildings. This stage develops both technical expertise and management skills, preparing students to contribute effectively to complex projects. In the third year, the focus shifts to Energy Management and Controls, Passive Building Design, and a Major Project, enabling students to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges. Students also choose two optional modules from either the electrical route, including Electrical Power Systems and Distribution or Lighting and Electrical Systems, or the mechanical route, including Heat and Mass Transfer Applications or Thermal Energy Systems. This curriculum ensures graduates are highly skilled, versatile, and prepared for careers in building services engineering, energy management, and sustainable construction.
