COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Game Design and Development program provides a structured and comprehensive curriculum that equips students with the technical, creative, and analytical skills required for a career in the gaming industry. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Fundamentals of Software Development, Game Art and Sound, 2D Game Development, 3D Modelling, Software Development, and Theory 1: Games Studies. These modules introduce essential programming, design, and artistic skills while providing a theoretical understanding of games and their development. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced technical and creative modules, including Level Design, Theory 2: Game Analysis, Game Programming, Advanced Programming, Character Art and Modelling, and Games Specialism, allowing students to deepen their expertise and begin specialising in areas aligned with their interests. In the final year, students consolidate their learning and showcase their abilities through the Project module, Game Accessibility, Final Game Project, and Advanced Game Specialism, emphasizing practical application, accessibility considerations, and advanced skills in a chosen specialism. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience creating games for multiple platforms while developing problem-solving, collaboration, and project management skills. Overall, the course combines technical proficiency, creative development, and industry insight, preparing graduates for versatile roles in game design, development, programming, art, and production leadership.
