COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Education program at LSBU offers a structured three-year curriculum designed to provide students with a deep understanding of educational theory, practice, and social context. In the first year, students build a foundation through modules such as What is Education?, Language, Literacy and Learning, Developing Mathematical Thinking, Constructing Childhood, Study Skills for Education, and Community, Family and Children. These modules introduce key concepts in learning, childhood development, and the social factors influencing education. The second year focuses on more specialised areas, including Interpersonal Interactions, Equality, Culture and Citizenship, Barriers to Learning, Introduction to Technology and Education, Alternative Educational Setting Placement, and Anti-Racist Education Practice. These modules allow students to explore issues of diversity, inclusion, and technology in education while gaining practical experience through placements. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge with advanced modules such as The Learning Environment, Contextualising Education Globally, Contemporary Issues in Education, Educational Autobiography, and a major Project. These focus on global perspectives, contemporary debates, and reflective practice, enabling students to critically analyse educational systems and approaches. The program equips graduates with the theoretical understanding, practical skills, and critical thinking abilities needed for careers in teaching, educational support, policy, and other roles requiring insight into learning, inclusion, and the social context of education.
