COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Architecture program offers a structured and progressive curriculum that combines creative design, technical knowledge, cultural understanding, and professional practice. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of architectural design and creative practices through Design 101 and Design 102, focusing on sketching, model-making, drawing, and site and building visits. Complementary modules in Cultural Context 1, Technology 1, and Communication 1 develop students’ understanding of architectural history, construction principles, and visual communication using both traditional and digital media. By the end of the first year, students are able to explore different design studios and approaches, fostering both collaborative and independent learning. In the second year, the focus shifts to more thematic and research-driven design projects with modules such as Design 201: Experimental Media and Design 202, alongside Cultural Context 2, Technology 2, and Communication 2: Digital Design, allowing students to experiment with creative solutions while deepening their technical knowledge and digital skills. In the third year, students tackle more complex studio projects, resolving detailed design solutions linked to technology and structures through Design 301 and Design 302. Modules in Cultural Context 3, Technology 3, and Professional Practice further develop critical understanding, sustainability awareness, and readiness for professional life. Across all years, key subject areas of design, technology and environment, cultural context, communication, and professional practice equip graduates with the skills, creativity, and knowledge needed to succeed in architecture.
