COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Work MSc is structured across two years and combines academic learning with extensive practice-based training to prepare students for professional social work practice. In the first year, students study Applied Law for Social Work, which provides an understanding of the legal frameworks and legislation that guide social work practice. Assessment Planning and Professional Ethics focuses on ethical decision-making and the development of appropriate care and intervention plans. Development across the Lifespan for Social Work examines human growth and development from childhood to old age, helping students understand needs at different life stages. Readiness for Direct Practice prepares students for working in real social work environments by developing core practical skills. Social Work Practice Learning 1 is the first placement, offering supervised experience in a professional setting. Social Work Theories and Perspectives introduces key theoretical approaches that inform social work practice. In the second year, Research Mindedness for Practice develops students’ ability to engage with research and apply evidence-based approaches in their work. Social Work Practice Learning 2 is the second, more advanced placement, where students further develop their professional competence. Together, these modules integrate theory, research, ethics, and practice, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for qualified social work roles in a variety of community and care settings.
