COURSE CURRICULUM

The program is structured over two years to develop both theoretical understanding and practical counselling skills. In the first year, Models of Counselling and Psychotherapy introduces key therapeutic approaches, helping students understand different methods used in professional practice. Professional Practice and Reflective Skills focuses on developing self-awareness, communication, and the ability to reflect critically on one’s own work. Research Methods for Counselling and Psychotherapy equips students with the skills to design and evaluate research, supporting evidence-based practice. Safeguarding and Ethical Practice emphasizes the importance of maintaining professional standards, confidentiality, and client wellbeing. In the second year, Advanced Counselling Skills builds on foundational techniques, enabling students to work more confidently and effectively with clients. Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in Professional Practice explores how to provide fair and culturally sensitive support to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Professional and Practitioner Skill Development further enhances practical competencies and prepares students for real-world counselling environments. The Dissertation allows students to conduct independent research on a relevant topic, developing critical thinking and analytical skills. Together, these modules ensure graduates are well prepared to practice ethically and effectively as counselling professionals in a range of settings.
