COURSE CURRICULUM

The Public Art and Performative Practices MA includes a set of modules designed to develop professional, creative, and research skills for working in public art contexts. Professional Focus 1: Public Art, Funding and Commissioning explores how public art projects are financed, commissioned, and supported by funding bodies, with attention to developing sustainable professional practice. Professional Focus 2: Project Managing Public Art focuses on the planning, coordination, and delivery of public art projects, helping students understand the practical and organisational demands of the field. The Public Art Project module allows students to design and implement their own public-facing creative work, applying their skills in a real or simulated professional context. Public Art: Creating and Curating examines the processes involved in developing and presenting public art, including curatorial approaches and audience engagement strategies. Public Art: Research for Practice develops students’ ability to conduct practice-based research that informs and strengthens their creative work in public environments. Together, these modules provide a balanced combination of theory, practice, and professional development. The program prepares students to work confidently in the public art sector by equipping them with skills in project management, commissioning, research, and creative production. Graduates are supported in developing sustainable careers as artists, curators, and cultural practitioners working in public and collaborative art environments.
