COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Science (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) at London Metropolitan University is a structured four-year program designed to support students from entry level through to advanced scientific understanding of sport, health, and human performance. The foundation year introduces core scientific knowledge through modules such as Biology, Foundations of Human Nutrition, Foundations of Sports Science, Practical Approaches to Current Issues in Sports, Scientific Studies, and a Foundation Year Project in Health Sciences, helping students build confidence and essential academic skills. In Year 1, students progress to applied sport science topics including Human Physiology, Musculoskeletal Anatomy, Introduction to Biomechanics, Physiological Principles of Training, Foundations of Sport Psychology, Applied Sports Science, and Essential Principles of Effective Coaching and Teaching, alongside professional skills development. In Year 2, learning becomes more advanced with modules in Exercise Physiology, Environmental Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics of Human Movement and Biomechanical Applications, Sport Psychology focused on individual and group performance, Sociology of Coaching, and Sports Science Research Methods, supported by community engagement through Empowering London. In Year 3, students specialise in Applied and Clinical Exercise Physiology, Human Movement Analysis, elite sport psychology, and practical applications, while completing a Sports Science and Therapy Dissertation and exploring Business Developments in Sport. Overall, the course prepares graduates for careers in sport science, coaching, rehabilitation, and health-related industries.
