COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Work (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) at London Metropolitan University provides a structured route into professional social work practice, beginning with a foundation year and progressing through academic study and practice placements. The foundation year develops essential study skills and introduces key social science themes. In Year 1, students study modules such as Assessing, Planning and Professional Ethics, Lifespan Development, Readiness for Direct Practice, and Social Context for Social Work, which build understanding of individuals, society, and ethical responsibilities. In Year 2, learning becomes more applied through Creative, Critical Reflective Approaches to Practice, Law for Social Work Practice, Theoretical Perspectives in Social Work, and Practice Learning 1, which includes a first supervised placement. In Year 3, students focus on advanced practice and research through Becoming Research Minded for Practice, Practice Learning 2 with a second placement, and specialist study of Homelessness and Housing Policy alongside Housing Issues and Housing Solutions. Across the program, students develop professional competence, critical thinking, and practical experience in real social work settings. The course prepares graduates for ethical, reflective, and evidence-based practice, equipping them with the knowledge and hands-on experience required for a career in social work and related support services sector.
