COURSE CURRICULUM

The Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) is a structured program designed to prepare students for careers in the construction and built environment sector. In Year 0, students develop essential academic foundations through modules such as Academic Research Skills and Professional Development, Applied Mathematics in the Built Environment, and Computation and Digital Literacy. This stage builds confidence and prepares learners for more technical study. In Year 1, students gain core knowledge of the built environment through modules including Built Environment Principles, Construction Technology and Building Services, Materials Science and Structural Principles, Estimating and Measurement Practice, and Project Management and Contract Administration. They also study sustainability, design, procurement, and site engineering to understand how construction projects are planned and delivered. In the final stage, students focus on advanced and applied learning through modules such as Quantity Surveying Practice, Development, Finance and Risk, Sustainable Built Environments, and Big Data and the Built Environment. They also complete an Applied Research Project and undertake a Professional Placement to gain industry experience. Additional topics such as fire safety and leadership further enhance professional skills. Overall, the course develops technical expertise, analytical ability, and practical experience for careers in construction management and quantity surveying.
