COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmacology (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) program is structured across four years, beginning with a foundation year that introduces essential scientific subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Scientific Studies, alongside a foundation project to develop academic and research skills. In Year 1, students build a strong understanding of human biology and core life sciences through modules including Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and General Chemistry, while also developing practical laboratory skills and data handling techniques. Year 2 focuses on more specialised areas of pharmacology and biomedical science, including Pharmacodynamics, Drug Delivery, Immunity, Microbiology, and Metabolism, as well as analytical techniques such as spectroscopy and quantitative analysis, helping students understand how drugs interact with biological systems. In Year 3, students explore advanced and applied topics such as Neuropharmacology, Toxicology, Systems Pharmacology, and Biochemical Pathology, alongside modules in Medical Genetics, Virology, and Systems Pathology. The course also includes research-focused elements such as a Project and Research Project, as well as opportunities for work or sandwich placements. Overall, the program equips students with strong scientific knowledge, laboratory skills, and practical experience for careers in pharmacology, healthcare, and pharmaceutical research.
