COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmaceutical Science (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) program is structured over four years, beginning with a foundation year that builds essential scientific knowledge and academic skills. In Year 0, students study core subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Scientific Studies, and complete a Foundation Year Project, providing a strong base for further study. In Year 1, students develop fundamental knowledge in areas including Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, General and Organic Chemistry, and Laboratory Skills, alongside data handling and key chemical principles. Year 2 introduces more specialised topics such as Pharmacodynamics, Drug Delivery, Organic Chemistry, Spectroscopic Methods, and Quantitative Analysis, as well as life science subjects like Immunity, Microbiology, and Metabolism, giving students a deeper understanding of how drugs interact with biological systems. In Year 3, students focus on advanced and applied areas including Medicinal Chemistry, Neuropharmacology, Systems Pharmacology, and Pharmaceutical Formulation and Quality Assurance. Additional modules such as Advanced Organic Chemistry, Bioanalytical Science, and Programming for Science enhance technical expertise. The program also includes a Research Project and opportunities for work or sandwich placements. Overall, the course equips students with strong scientific, analytical, and practical skills for careers in pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.
