COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Nutrition BSc (Hons) degree with a foundation year at London Metropolitan University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human nutrition while preparing them for undergraduate study. In Year 0, students complete foundational modules in biology, chemistry, the Foundation Year Project in Health Sciences, Foundations of Human Nutrition, and Scientific Studies, which develop essential scientific knowledge, research skills, and academic confidence. Year 1 introduces core concepts in life sciences and nutrition, including anatomy and physiology, applied health psychology, biochemistry, cell biology, essentials of human nutrition, health, society and behaviour, and an introduction to human nutrition. This stage establishes the theoretical and practical knowledge required for advanced study in the field. Year 2 deepens students’ understanding of applied nutritional science through modules in applied food and nutritional science, energy and macronutrients, metabolic biochemistry, micronutrients for health, public health nutrition, dietary assessment techniques, nutritional research methods, and food science, combining laboratory work with applied research skills. In Year 3, students focus on advanced topics such as diet and disease, energy metabolism and endocrinology, global health nutrition, human nutrition research dissertation, nutrition across the lifecycle, sports and exercise nutrition, and community-focused projects. Across all four years, the program integrates scientific study, practical skills, research, and professional applications, preparing graduates for careers in nutrition, public health, and related sectors.
