COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Programming BSc (Hons) degree with a foundation year at London Metropolitan University is structured to develop students’ technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and creative skills over four years. In Year 0, students build a strong foundation through modules in cyber security fundamentals, robotics and the Internet of Things, mathematics, and programming, providing essential knowledge for game development. Year 1 introduces core programming and game design skills, including C++ game programming, C++ programming, computer and gaming hardware architectures, game design and development, game prototyping, and logic and mathematical techniques, combining theoretical understanding with practical application. In Year 2, students advance their skills with modules in advanced C++ programming, game implementation, game prototype development, programming graphical special effects, shaders and graphics programming, sound design for games, and virtual reality game development, allowing them to create more complex and interactive projects. Year 3 focuses on professional practice and specialized knowledge, covering advanced game implementation, advanced prototype development, artificial intelligence for games, networking for games, audio plug-in coding, and creative dissertation projects, while also developing career readiness and exploring interaction design for non-humans. Across all four years, the program integrates project-based learning, collaborative workflows, and technical experimentation, ensuring graduates leave with a robust portfolio, industry-relevant skills, and the confidence to pursue careers as games programrs, software developers, and technical specialists in the gaming industry.
