COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Animation, Modelling and Effects BSc (Hons) degree with a foundation year at London Metropolitan University is structured to progressively develop students’ technical skills, creative abilities, and industry readiness over four years. In Year 0, students build a solid foundation through modules in Critical and Contextual Studies, Critical Creative Practice, Project, and Techniques, introducing essential skills and creative thinking needed for higher-level study. Year 1 focuses on core animation and game design skills, including 2D computer animation, 3D modelling and texturing, 3D sculpting and animation, digital imaging, digital skills, game design and development, and an introduction to drawing and animation, giving students practical experience and a strong understanding of digital media tools. In Year 2, students advance their technical expertise through modules such as 3D texturing and VFX, advanced 3D animation and modelling, anatomy and character VFX, motion graphics design, sound design for games, VFX, and virtual reality game development, combining creativity with technical precision. Year 3 emphasizes professional practice and career preparation, with dissertation projects, game assets development, portfolio creation and research, interaction design for non-humans, and career development learning. Across all four years, the program integrates hands-on projects, research, and creative experimentation, equipping graduates with the skills, experience, and professional confidence to succeed as animators, visual effects artists, and game designers in the interactive entertainment industry.
