COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology BSc (Hons) with foundation year is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of crime, criminal behavior, and the justice system across four years. In Year 0, students complete a foundation program that builds essential academic and study skills, preparing them for degree-level work. In Year 1, the course introduces key concepts through modules such as Becoming a Criminologist, Issues in the Criminal Justice System, Key Concepts in Policing, and The Development of Criminological Thought, alongside research-focused and theory-based learning. Year 2 expands on this foundation with a broader and more applied approach, including modules like Crime in Context, Crime, Media and Technology, Youth, Crime and Violence, Cybercrime and Surveillance, and Working with Offenders, allowing students to explore contemporary issues and professional practices. By Year 3, students engage in advanced and specialized topics such as Organised Crime, Punishment and Prison, Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, and Gender and Crime, while also completing a Criminology Project and having opportunities for work-based learning. Overall, the course combines theoretical knowledge with practical insights, preparing students for careers within the criminal justice system and related fields.
