COURSE CURRICULUM

The Building Surveying BSc (Hons) with foundation year is structured to develop students’ knowledge and professional skills across the built environment over four years. In Year 0, students build essential academic and technical foundations through modules such as Academic Research Skills, Applied Mathematics, and Digital Literacy, preparing them for degree-level study. Year 1 introduces core concepts in construction and surveying, including Built Environment Principles, Construction Technology, Site Engineering, Materials Science, and Design and Management, giving students a broad understanding of how construction projects are planned and delivered. In Year 2, the focus shifts to more specialised topics such as Advanced Construction Technology, Building Pathology and Refurbishment, Environmental Sustainability, and Project Management, allowing students to deepen their technical knowledge and practical understanding. The final year develops advanced professional expertise through modules like Advanced Fire Safety, Building Surveying Practice, Sustainable Built Environments, and Big Data in construction. Students also complete an applied research project and gain valuable industry experience through a professional placement. Overall, the course combines technical knowledge, practical skills, and real-world experience to prepare graduates for careers in building surveying and the wider construction industry.
