COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Science BSc (Hons) with foundation year is structured to gradually build students’ scientific knowledge and practical skills over four years. In Year 0, students are introduced to essential subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry, alongside Scientific Studies and a foundation project, helping them develop core academic skills for degree-level learning. Year 1 expands on fundamental biomedical concepts with modules including Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, General Microbiology, and Laboratory Skills, as well as Professional Studies to support academic and career development. In Year 2, students progress to more specialized topics such as Blood Science, Medicinal Chemistry, Infection Science, Tissue Science, and Parasitology, while also learning advanced bioanalytical methods and infection control. A work placement module provides valuable real-world experience in a life sciences setting. In the final year, students study advanced areas including Clinical Biochemistry, Systems Pathology, Genomics, Medical Genetics, and Virology, alongside deeper exploration of blood, tissue, and infection sciences. The course concludes with an independent research project, allowing students to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical context. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in biomedical science and related fields.
