COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architectural Technology (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) program is structured over four years to develop both academic and technical expertise in the built environment. The foundation year introduces essential skills such as academic research, professional development, applied mathematics, and digital literacy, providing a strong base for further study. In the first year, students gain a solid understanding of core principles, including construction technology, building services, materials science, structural principles, and construction site engineering, alongside design and management processes. The second year builds on this knowledge with more advanced topics such as construction technology, structural systems, surveying practices, and building refurbishment, while also focusing on environmental science and sustainability. Students begin to apply their learning in practical design studio settings, enhancing their technical and creative abilities. In the final year, the program focuses on specialised and professional areas, including fire safety, project management, sustainable built environments, and the use of big data in construction. Students also develop leadership and teamwork skills and gain valuable real-world experience through a professional placement. Overall, the course provides a comprehensive blend of theory, practical application, and industry exposure, preparing graduates for successful careers in architectural technology and the wider construction industry.
