COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Work BSc (Hons) at London Metropolitan University is a professionally accredited degree that prepares students for qualified social work practice through a combination of academic study and hands-on placements. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge through modules including Assessing, Planning and Professional Ethics, Lifespan Development, Readiness for Direct Practice, and Social Context for Social Work, which develop understanding of people’s needs, ethical decision-making, and the wider social environment. In Year 2, the course becomes more practice-focused with modules such as Creative, Critical Reflective Approaches to Practice, Law for Social Work Practice, and Theoretical Perspectives in Social Work, alongside Practice Learning 1, which provides the first supervised placement in a real social work setting. In Year 3, students advance their expertise through Becoming Research Minded for Practice and Practice Learning 2, a second placement that strengthens professional competence. They also study specialist areas such as Homelessness and Housing Policy and Housing Issues and Housing Solutions, which explore key challenges faced by service users and communities. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, reflective practice, and professional skills required for effective social work. The structure ensures graduates are fully prepared for ethical, evidence-based, and confident practice in diverse social care environments upon qualification.
