COURSE CURRICULUM

The Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management BSc (Hons) is structured to develop students into skilled professionals within the construction and built environment sector. In Year 1, the course introduces core foundations such as Built Environment Principles, Construction Site Engineering and Infrastructure, Construction Technology and Building Services, Materials Science and Structural Principles, and Design, Procurement and Management. These modules provide essential knowledge of how construction projects are designed, planned, and delivered. In Year 2, students build on this foundation by studying more advanced topics including Advanced Construction Technology and Structures, Building Pathology and Refurbishment, Environmental Science and Sustainability, Estimating and Measurement Practice, and Project Management and Contract Administration. This stage strengthens technical understanding and introduces sustainability and refurbishment concepts. In Year 3, the focus shifts to professional practice and applied learning through modules such as Quantity Surveying Practice, Development, Finance and Risk, Sustainable Built Environments, and Big Data and the Built Environment. Students also complete an Applied Research Project and undertake a Professional Placement to gain real industry experience. Additional modules in fire safety and leadership further enhance professional capability. Overall, the program equips students with technical expertise, analytical skills, and practical experience needed for careers in quantity surveying and construction management.
